Edith Shum: Semester’s finally over- now what? 5 events to look forward to

How to make this semester break the best one yet

We’ve made it! It’s finally the end of the semester, and that means celebration (exams can wait). This semester has gone by so fast, and I honestly can’t believe we’re almost halfway through 2017. To get your life back together (cause I know I haven’t been for the past month), here are 5 events to get you started!

  • Strand Night Market– JUNE 2nd
Held at Strand Park the first Friday of every month (5-9:30pm), attend with an empty stomach and be prepared for a variety of food to fill you up while you cruise along stalls of fashion, craft, and jewelry!

Spend a day on Magnetic Island (9:30am-4:00pm) learning about what you can do for a healthier ocean and a more sustainable future. Discover new innovative alternatives to reduce plastic use, and expand your network with like-minded individuals and organizations. It’s time to turn that care into action!

Hosted by the Perc Tucker Regional Gallery (5-7pm) on Ogden Street, celebrate with Leans, a Brisbane-based artist on his vision and the launch of an exciting street art commission in Townsville! The piece will illustrate the rich patterns and colors of Townsville’s coral and fish species- something to definitely keep an eye out for!

What better way to burn off all the junk you ate following exams than by running through barbed-wire mud crawls and fire jumps? With three different races (7km, 20km, 42km) to choose from, there’s one for everyone to unleash that inner beast.

Set out at Hervey’s Range, surround yourself in the wilderness with original live music. Food trucks, BYO drinks, camping, family friendly, this will be a music festival not to miss!

Not to mention the cooler days we’ll be getting for the next while! So while the sky stays clear, there’s so much to look forward to. Mark your calendars now, because before you know it, it’s going to get too hot and humid far too soon.
