Donata, London

Hello beautiful people!

My name is Donata, I came to Cairns from London, but originally I’m from Lithuania. I’m doing my Study Abroad here studying English Literature and French and so far it’s one of the best decisions of my life!

So, after a few days of adaptation (all of us internationals needed that), I started really opening my eyes and seeing what Australia and North Queensland is about.  The first thing I did is going to the Cairns Tropical Zoo, which is close to JCU. I don’t know how many people in this world had an opportunity to hold a koala, but everyone should do that at least once in the lifetime! I know that Australia has a wide range of different animals and for me, being from Lithuania, where all we have is reindeers, cows and sheep, everything that moves here is quite exotic! But a koala is definitely one of the most beautiful animals I’ve ever seen.

O week was really great, I could say that Student Association has thought about it well and made sure that people had the opportunity to meet each other and see a little bit of North Queensland. I went to Crystal Cascades and Green Island trip and both of them were really good. Oh, and of course, going somewhere with a party bus is even better!

When I first went to JCU, I couldn’t believe how beautiful it was. University in the middle of a rainforest is something you can’t imagine when you live in Europe. My university experience has only been positive; everyone is extremely friendly and helpful. Although I did not have my classes yet, from what I’ve heard and seen, I think I will love it.

JCU is definitely a place to be and I’m so glad I have the opportunity to explore life and education in this beautiful part of Australia.

Hope you all are as happy as I am!

With love,
